Unbelief In The Son? (Olevianus)

Question: What danger is there if one does not believe in the Son as the true God?

It is a danger that Christ Himself teaches about in John 3:18  “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned; but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” Likewise in 1 John 2:23 “Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either.” The Holy Spirit also warns us about that in 2 Peter 2:1 “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.” This Lord who bought us, however, is Christ, truly God and human, as it is stated in Acts 20:28 “God purchased the church with His own blood.” If, then, someone does not believe that it was God who in His humanity shed His blood on the cross, that person is denying the Lord who bought Him.
